Diary of a Wimpy Merc

Jun 25, 2013

As Mercenaries, we receive a lot of questions about how our team works. Most often people ask about how we choose new members, what do we look for in potentials, how does the team make decisions, what’s life like as a team member, etc.

There are a lot of different answers to ALL those questions. When you’re working with a large group of people who all have their own varied life experiences, strengths, weaknesses, and motivations, working together as a cohesive unit is never simple. When you compound this with the fact that this group of people is aiming to serve even MORE people with even MORE complex combinations of experiences, strengths, weaknesses, and motivations… you’re forced to look through a lot of perspectives and see things in ways you may never have considered before.

Teamwork is essential; maintain it for the long run, though, has it's own challenges.

Teamwork is essential; maintaining it for the long run, though, has its own challenges.

With that in mind, we’re introducing the Diary of a Wimpy Merc blog series! These are intended to give you all a behind the scenes look at Mercenaries101. We’ll cover a variety of topics: you can expect to see lots of posts talking about qualities we do (and don’t) look for in potential team members. We’ll share our own stories about how we came to be team members. You’ll learn a bit about our training and testing process for new members, and why it’s not quite as fun as you might think. We’ll share how we organize our requests, the process behind planning events, and lots of other behind the scenes stuff that you may have been curious about in the past. We might even give you a glimpse into what mercs do in our down time. (Two words: BOLT. PARTY.)

We hope you guys enjoy this series. We’re looking forward to showing you another side of our group, and hope that you guys gain some insight into what we’re trying to do for the community.

BOLT PARTY!!!! Hahahahahaha! I had my hands full with Avalon when Pirates became a time-consuming beta test…then Azteca came online…and I couldn’t keep up, lol! Here it is mid-summer, and I have 1/6 wizards done, the others somewhere between Avalon and Azteca, one measly pirate somewhere in Cool Ranch. Oh, will it never end?
