Pound It Down

Nov 22, 2015

The poor penguins need your help! You need to spring their cages, but if you let them out now, the watch lions will catch them and prevent them from leaving the camp. In order to lead a successful escape, you’ll need to enter The Kennels and take a watch lion soothing whistle from Ludus the Beastmaster.

When you enter The Kennels, you’re first confronted by two Watch Lions (Storm 3,450 health). There will always be two Watch Lions no matter how many wizards are in the dungeon.

WatchLionBattle

You can treat this fight like a normal mob battle.

Psst … did you notice that small table behind the battle that reads Feeding Instructions? After you handle the mob battle, run over to it and click X.  You’ll then get this dialogue which tells you how to successfully feed the hungry Watch Lions:

FeedingInstructions

Remember this combination for later!

Note: The quest arrow will not point you towards this table, you have to walk to it yourself.

Once you walk through the door to the next room, you will get the following dialogue:

TheWatchLions

FeedBags

A picky food order, huh? That sounds familiar! Remember the feeding instructions we read earlier? Use it to feed the Watch Lions in the correct order.

If you’re stuck, the correct feeding order is:

  1. Bread
  2. Fish
  3. Fruit

FoodOrder

If you feed the Watch Lions in the correct order, they will happily go to their food bowl and allow you to slide past.

Happylions

If you feed them in the wrong order however, they will immediately pull you into battle. The battle consists of two Watch Lions (Storm, 3,450 health). There will always be two Watch Lions no matter how many wizards are in the dungeon.

WatchLionsOOps

Should you get pulled, you can treat this battle like a normal mob fight.

If you leave the dungeon and recall after solving the puzzle incorrectly, you will still have to fight the Watch Lions. The puzzle does not reset.

Once you either slide past the Watch Lions or fight them, you meet the one and only Ludus the Beastmaster! He’s not too pleased that you got past his beasts either …

Ludus

Ludus the Beastmaster is a balance boss with 13,600 health. He has 50% balance and myth resist, 25% storm boost, and is neutral to death, life, ice, and fire.

Ludus the Beastmaster also has a pet that may casts Bladestorm.

Ludus the Beastmaster Cheats

  • If anyone is late to the battle, Ludus the Beastmaster will interrupt to shout “Tardiness will not be tolerated!” and cast a mana burn on all late wizards.

Tardiness

  • Every fourth round, Ludus the Beastmaster will shout “My beasts will defend me!” and summon an Attack Sea Lion (Storm, 2,725 health) into the battle.
    • This summon is NOT an interrupt. He will cast all minion summons during his normal round of play.
    • Each Attack Sea Lion will become active the round after they were summoned.
    • You will have a full battle (Ludus the Beastmaster + 3 active Attack Sea Lions) at the beginning of round 13.
    • Ludus the Beastmaster will continue to say “My beasts will defend me!” every fourth round even if the battle is already full. This won’t have any effect though.

MyBeasts

Ludus+SeaLions

  • If you hit any of Ludus the Beastmaster’s Attack Sea Lions without killing them, he will interrupt to shout “No one hurts my beasts but me!” and cast a Berserk on himself (+40 incoming, +30 outgoing damage for next 4 rounds).

Noone

  • If you defeat any of Ludus the Beastmaster’s Attack Sea Lions, he will interrupt to shout “My beast! Must … Avenge … Grr!” and cast a TC version of Berserk on himself (+45 incoming, +35 outgoing damage for next 4 rounds).
    • If you use an AOE and kill some of the Attack Sea Lions but not all of them, Ludus the Beastmaster will just say this phrase and not do the “No one hurts my beasts but me!” phrase.

MybeastGrrr

  • If you place a feint on Ludus the Beastmaster, he will interrupt to shout “Why don’t we trade!” and swap the two traps, putting the 30% trap on him, and putting the 70% trap on you.
    • Pet feints will still trigger this cheat.

whydont

  • If you trap any of Ludus the Beastmaster’s Attack Sea Lions, he will interrupt to shout “I alone can leash these beasts!” and remove the trap you just placed from the minion(s).
    • Ludus the Beastmaster will only remove one trap each time the cheat is triggered.
    • If you play a Spirit Trap, the life trap will be removed. If you play an Elemental Trap, the storm trap will be removed.
    • If you play Windstorm, the traps on ALL the minions will be removed. The trap on Ludus the Beastmaster will remain.
    • Pet traps will still trigger this cheat.

IAlone

  • If you play a damage debuff on any of Ludus the Beastmaster’s Attack Sea Lions, he will interrupt to shout “Ha! We shake off your measly charms!” and cleanse whatever debuff you just placed.
    • If you play an AOE damage debuff such as plague, Ludus the Beastmaster will cleanse the debuff off every single minion but leave it on himself.

Hawe

Ludus the Beastmaster Strategy

  • You can dispel the minions with Unbalance. If you don’t wish to deal with the minions, place an unbalance on Ludus the Beastmaster to dispel his minion summoning cheat. If you’re going second, you’ll need to place an unbalance on Ludus the Beastmaster the turn BEFORE he tries to summon a minion (Rounds 3,7, and 11). Because his minion summon is part of his normal turn and not an interrupt, if you’re first, you can play an unbalance the same turn he will try to summon a minion (Rounds 4,8, and 12).
  • If you want to feint, melt Ludus the Beastmaster. You can dispel Ludus the Beastmaster’s feint swapping cheat with melt. Or you can just stack school specific traps and skip feint altogether.
  • Buff up and take out Ludus The Beastmaster in one hit. If you don’t dispel his minions, make sure you hit on a round where all the minions are in play. If you’re going first, you won’t need to worry about this. If you’re going second, you have to avoid hitting on rounds 4,8, and 12. If you don’t, there will be one minion left standing.

Now that you have that whistle, go free those penguins from their cages!
