Who Let the Dogs Out?!

Who Let the Dogs Out?!

May 27, 2015

A new crisis has risen in Marleybone, and it’s up to you to set things right! To start the Barkingham Palace questline, wizards level 40 or higher should speak with Private Kinchley in the cathedral of Regent’s Square (Right near the Marleybone spiral door).

private kinchley

Private Kinchley orders you to seek out Sherlock Bones who alerts you of a big problem about to unfold in the Royal Residence. Although the guard first tells you that Barkingham Palace is closed, you are able to get in using the credentials of Sherlock Bones’s brother. Inside, Sherlock Bones and Watson inform you of what is happening. Chief Whip has shut the palace up tight with no explanation. In addition, Sherlock Bones finds it curious how the supposed opera singer set to perform for the Queen has a large entourage with her. He tasks you to enter the State Wing to get a firsthand account of the suspicious events.

State Wing

Upon entering the State Wing, you are confronted by Corrupted Yeoman Warders (Balance, 1,755 health)

Recommendation: Treat this as a normal mob fight and blade hit with an AOE.

Upon their defeat, Doctor Jackal informs you that the opera singer in question is actually a thief who is after the Queen’s jewels. In fact, she has mesmermized the Yeomen while she loots the palace! If you hurry though, you may still be able to catch her!

Your next battle is another mob fight, this time with Enfield Tricksters (Myth, 1,305 health)

Recommendation: Treat this as a normal mob fight and blade hit with an AOE.

After that battle, proceed into the next room where you will find Catrin Chesire. Disgusted with both you and Sherlock Bones, she orders her henchmen to deal with you.

Your final battle consists of The Woman’s Right Hand (Myth, 5,200 health) and The Woman’s Fist (Balance 1,275 health)

Recommendation: No cheats have been observed in this fight, so treat this as a normal boss battle and blade up your hammer for a big AOE to take them both out at once.

Once you have given those two goons a beat-down, Catrin Chesire reveals Doctor Jackal’s true intentions. She says that Doctor Jackal hired her to gain him entrance to the palace to help him find the Queen’s jewels. She continues to say that he needs the jewels for some kind of alchemical process, and that he is the one who has actually been hypnotizing the Yeomen. He’s the one you want, not her. In order to catch him, you must quickly track him down in the Main Hall!

Main Hall

After entering the Main Hall, you’ll be face to face with Corrupted Grenadiers (Fire, 1,345 health)

Recommendation: Treat this as a normal mob fight and blade hit with an AOE.

Here is where the fun starts to begin. Following your mob battle, you will have to confront Chief Whip (Life, 5,075 health) and his minions Bulldog Sergeant Majors (Death, 1,505 health). Chief Whip and his minions are both stunnable.

Unlike the previous battles, this boss is a cheater!

Chief Whip’s Cheats

  • *Random Alert* Every time you hit Chief Whip or a minion, Chief Whip MAY interrupt to shout “Chip Up!” and place Spirit Armor on the person hit. This does not always happen, and seems to be random.
    •  If you use an AOE, “Chip Up!” MAY trigger for all enemies, one, or even none.
    • If you use a DOT, “Chip Up!” MAY trigger for the initial hit, but it will never trigger for tick damage.
    • If you use a multi-hit spell like Minotaur or Hydra, “Chip Up!” MAY trigger for all hits, one hit, or none.

chipup

  • All heals will result in Chief Whip interrupting to say “I’ll Catch You Up!” which will place an Entangle (Life Dispel) on the caster.
    • Pet heals are included in this cheat, so be careful.

illcatchyou

  • If you kill ALL of the minions (not just one) before you kill Chief Whip, Chief Whip will interrupt to shout “Hold the Line!” and cast a Rebirth for 730 health. This rebirth will bring the minions back to life.
    • This cheat will only occur once. If you happen to kill all of the minions again, Chief Whip will not cast another rebirth.
    • Chief Whip will also occasionally go through with this cheat randomly when all of the minions are still alive.

Minion Cheats

  • Every time a minion uses the spell Donate Power on Chief Whip, he will interrupt to shout “Let Me Help You, Chief!”

Recommendations:

  • Take off healing pets. Since you get an Entangle for every heal, it’s best to take off your healing pets and make sure your heals count. It’s better to get an Entangle for an intentional heal for 800-1,000 health rather than an unintentional heal for 200-500 health. In short, you don’t want to be dispelled when you actually could NEED a heal.
  • Treat this battle like a normal boss fight. Designate a hammer, blade them up, place a few feints, and take out Chief Whip and his goons with an AOE.
  • Entangle Chief Whip. If you think that your hit may not kill, have someone place an Entangle on Chief Whip the round you hit. The Entangle will dispel his “Hold the Line!” Rebirth cheat that will bring back his minions.

After you’ve shown Chief Whip who’s boss, Bulldog Sergeant Major informs you that your spells have cleared his mind of a noxious gas. Even though Chief Whip is not a bad hound, he got a double dose of the harmful fumes. You’ll have to defeat both Chief Whip and the Noxious Gas Golem in order to break Doctor Jackal’s hold on the mesmermized Yeomen Warders.

Upon approaching your new foes, Chief Whip informs you that you’re too late, and Doctor Jackal has already kidnapped the Queen! Even worse, the Noxious Gas Golem states that he has been instructed to mesmerize you 3-2-1…..

The final battle in the Main Hall has you up against the Noxious Gas Golem (Fire, 4,375 health), and Chief Whip (Life, 5,075 health) who is still under the control of the Noxious Gas Golem. Both the Noxious Gas Golem and Chief Whip are stunnable.

noxious

Noxious Gas Golem’s Cheats

  • At the beginning of round 1, the Noxious Gas Golem will interrupt to shout “Alert: Noxious Gas Release Imminent!” This will summon 2 Gas Elementals (Fire, 1,415 health). They will not be active until round 2.

noxiouswmin

  • At the start of every 4 rounds, starting on round 4, the Noxious Gas Golem will interrupt to say “Initiate: Defensive Screen” and cast a zero pip Smoke Screen.
    • Nothing happens if you fizzle because of this smokescreen.

initiate

  • If at least 2 minions (Chief Whip is included as a minion here) die before the Noxious Gas Golem, the Noxious Gas Golem will resummon them at the very end of the next round while shouting “Alert: Noxious Gas Release Imminent!”
    • If Chief Whip is killed when this happens, Chief Whip will not come back, another Gas Elemental will take his place.
  • Occasionally, the Noxious Gas Golem will shout “Initiate: Support Maintenance” and cast a Take Power on one of his minions.

Chief Whip’s Cheats

  • Chief Whip keeps all of his cheats from the previous battle.

  • Wear good accuracy gear and ignore the smokescreen. Nothing happens if you fizzle the smokescreen, so it’s not too dangerous. You can dispel the smokescreen cheat using Quench, but seeing as how the Noxious Gas Golem is a fire boss, you would need to play Quench directly before each 4th round.
  • Treat this battle like a normal boss fight. Designate a hammer, blade them up, place a few feints, and take everyone out with an AOE.
  • Entangle Chief Whip. If you think that your hit may not kill, have someone place an Entangle on Chief Whip the round you hit. The Entangle will dispel his “Hold the Line!” Rebirth cheat that will bring back his minions.

After winning the battle, you have finally broken Doctor Jackal’s hold on Chief Whip, who informs you that Jackal has took the Queen to the rooftop. He jammed the path behind him, so you’ll need to find another way up there….

And with that, you have now completed the first 2 parts of Barkingham Palace! Keep watch for the rooftop guide coming soon!
